what is Hex beam

The Hexagonal beam is a wonderful little antenna, which is used to fulfil your multiband Communication activity in a decent gain. Compared to other mode beams, Hex beam is very lightweight multiband Antenna also it is directional.

History of Hexbeam

The hexagonal beam (or known by many as the hex beam) has become a widely popular antenna. It is

a directional antenna that provides great performance and does not require a full scale, expensive

tower. It allows the average amateur to compete with the big boys for DX.

The original HEX-BEAM was developed by Mike Traffic, N1HXA, in the early nineties. Mike says his

design was inspired by the snowflake. He spent much time in testing and analysis of the antenna and

developed the nesting concept that uses an inverted umbrella frame to allow multi band operation.

Mike invented many of the unique fixtures and components that became a byword among HEXBEAM

owners and after much experimentation introduced the antenna commercially under the

trademark, HEX-BEAM. It was reviewed in both CQ and QST magazines and soon earned a reputation

for being a pileup buster among its owners. For a number of years it was the only commercially

available hexagonal beam. Eventually, home brewers began building the “hex beam”

The Story behind Tahabeam

I have started building my first hexbeam in 2014, out of the general hardware available locally. During

that period one of my friend was in need of a hexbeam for his A7 operations. He insisted me to tryout

the prototype, out of the Chinese fishing rods available in Kerala- South India. Thus the prototype

was ready in 2015 beginning however it came on air in the mid of 2016 only. The prototype gave him

cutting edge performance even at a low height of just 3 meter off the roof top on two story building,

running pileups to W land and working many rare DXCCs, breaking pileups with just 400W.

The feedback gave me the confidence to build hexbeam again with high quality materials for a group

of hams. Thus taking birth of Tahabeam Version 1.0. Later on the model has been upgraded to export

quality Version 2.0.

Here there are two versions came out yet, the Standard model which can handle up to 600W pep and

QRO model which can easily handle up to 2.5kw pep (tested with a FU728F tube amplifier). So far

more than 20 nos of HEXBEAMs went on sale and successfully +deployed in more than 5 DXCC

entities and majority in the Middle East
